Wells Food Festival is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, set up in 2013 to celebrate the high quality work of our local artisan food and drink producers, from Somerset and beyond. The annual festival is now firmly established in Wells, with around 15,000 visitors coming to browse over 200 stalls showcasing and selling their culinary delights. Stalls are located in the High Street, the Market Place and Town Hall, on the Bishop’s Palace Green, along the Moat Walk and in the Recreation Ground.

The festival also has an area showcasing English wines, as well as an area highlighting current, food related, social issues, plus activities for children, including cookery workshops and a children’s trail.

Visitors are admitted free and we aim to keep stallholders’ fees to a minimum. Our main income comes from local sponsors, whose generous support funds the event. By attracting such a large audience, we are proud to play our part in boosting stallholders’ businesses, the local economy, the city’s prestige and the tourism on which the area depends. Plus we hope to give our visitors a fulfilling day, packed with flavour, surprises, fun and learning.

Our Team

A small team of volunteers plan and organise the event, taking responsibility for the many elements and details required to deliver a successful festival. We also have a large group of people who give their time on event day to help with setting up and clearing away, welcoming traders and visitors, marshalling trader traffic and stewarding. If you would like to be involved see Join our Team.

Traders

All our traders are individually invited by us to offer the widest possible variety of tastes and food experiences. They are all regionally based, unless offering something unique. Potential new traders may request a stall via email or by using the website contact form. We do not have space to accommodate all requests, but we keep a reserve list from which we draw should a suitable pitch become available.

Sustainability

Traders at the festival are not permitted to use single use plastics such as plates, trays, bowls, cutlery and certain types of polystyrene cups and food containers (in line with government policy). We encourage traders to avoid using other single use plastics and non-recyclables. Waste from the festival is managed by JWitt, who sort it to recover as much recyclable material as possible, which is then sent on to their local specialist recycling partners.
